Peak District - July 2021

CMC members enjoyed a fabulous weekend in the Peaks. The worrying weather forecast failed to live up to its promise of rain and 12 club members were able to enjoy two days (three for a few) climbing on Stanage and Froggat.

As usual, I’ve come away from a club trip a happy man. It was great to see everyone having a great time. We had newly joined members experiencing gritstone and trad climbing for the first time and learning the finer points of leading as well as some experienced members nudging up their grade in style.

Some key moments that I was lucky enough to have witnessed …

  • Josh making short work of Tody,s Wall HVS 5a.

  • Kev climbing Wuthering E2 5b and Flying Buttress Direct E1 5b in style.

  • Dean leading very competently with Simon’s expert guidance.

  • Carolina enjoying her first CMC trip and her first serious foray in to trad climbing (and loving it!)

  • Glen leading competently with no dramas or wobbles.

  • Chairman’s ascent of CMC Slab (yep, you read correctly) at Froggat, HVS 5a.

There were plenty more moments the I didn’t witness so I encourage members to share them with the wider club.

All told it was another great weekend and I’m already looking forward to the next one … watch this space!
