About the Chelmsford Mountaineering Club

Welcome to The Chelmsford Mountaineering Club (The CMC). We are a very friendly and highly active climbing and mountaineering club, with members across a wide range of ages and abilities. We are a British Mountaineering Council (BMC) affiliated club and our ethos is to actively participate in mountaineering pursuits, in a safe and enjoyable way. We meet twice weekly at The Lock Climbing Wall in Harlow and Rock Hub Basildon with members also regularly climbing at Colchester Climbing Project, Indirock Southend and The Reach in South London.

Our membership has a strong rock climbing interest, and we regularly run trips to the Peak District, North Wales, Jurassic Coast and further afield. We actively have a go at anything from sports routes to sea stacks, to multi pitch mountain routes.

Alongside that we run regular mountain walking trips to places such as North Wales, The Lakes and Scotland (to name a few!).

Outside of official club meets, CMC members often arrange their own trips - anything from a day at Swanage to trekking in the Himalayas or an Alpine climbing trip, with some of our members summiting in the greater ranges. See our meets page for details of upcoming trips and our contact us page to join up, come along and get involved!
