What do we do

Chelmsford Mountaineering Club, (The CMC) is a relatively small (approx. 70 members) but very friendly and highly active mountaineering club, with members across a wide range of ages and abilities. Our club is BMC affiliated and our ethos is to actively participate in mountaineering pursuits, in a safe and enjoyable way. We meet every week, at either Harlow Climbing Wall, the Basildon Climbing Wall. Where we are meeting next can be found on the club calender on our meets page.

Our membership has a strong rock climbing interest, and we regularly run trips to the Lakes, North Wales, Peaks, Scotland and Cornwall. We actively have a go at anything from sports routes to sea stacks, to multi pitch mountain routes.

Plus, we also have (and actively encourage) members who enjoy mountain walking and have trips to North Wales, Peaks, and Scotland (to name a few!) in winter and summer.

Members also arrange their own trips, anything from a day down at Swanage to Alpine climbing trips, to trekking in the Himalaya, and with some members summiting in the greater ranges. See our meets list for details of club meets. Then come along, join up and get involved.

There is a wealth of experience within our club that you can learn from, and we have organised training for club members including Scottish Winter Skills courses, First Aid, Self Rescue and Navigation Skills.

Your willingness to come along and get involved in the club and have a good time is more important than the grade you climb.

We also have a number of social events during the year. Ranging from going out for a Curry, Summer BBQ to our annual Christmas dinner….not to be missed!

Upcoming Club Trips…

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, all club trips and meets have been cancelled. We hope to be able to get out climbing again soon.

For more information on any of our trips, either take a look at the meets page or email the CMC.
