We welcome all new members to join us at one of our evenings at the Basildon (every Tuesday) or Harlow (every Thursday) climbing walls. To climb at these local walls, you will need to pass the wall tests (tying in and belaying safely) before you can climb.

The club is fortunate enough to have several qualified members, who can provide a full induction if you are new to climbing. This training could also be very useful if you’ve had a long break and need a bit of a refresher. It costs £31, includes entry to the wall along with any equipment that you will need. This covers the way the club works, the use of indoor wall facilities and any basic training that is needed. The induction will be tailored to any previous experience you may have and can be a good way of meeting a few people from the club. Further training or coaching can be arranged if needed.

Induction courses are run on the first Thursday of every month at The Lock Climbing Wall in Harlow.

If you would like further information, to book onto the next course or if you have any other queries about joining the climbing club, please email us.

Club subscriptions are £20.00 a year, and this includes your BMC club membership (this can subsequently be upgraded to full BMC membership if required).

We are affiliated to the BMC, so all CMC members receive personal liability insurance, plus gear discounts in a range of outdoor stores.

We also meet every Tuesday and Thursday nights, at either a local climbing wall or occasionally a local pub. Where we are meeting can be found on the club calendar on our meets page. These are great social events where you can get to know everyone and hone your skills for the great outdoors!

Below are a few links to forms that you may need if you would like to become part of the club, or come along to one of our meets with another club member. You’ll need to print out the form, then either bring it along to one of our meets, or send it to a member of the committee. Please email the CMC to find out more details.

We also run extra training within the club; sessions include mountain first aid, navigation and map reading, winter skills, rock climbing skills and safety. There is also a wealth of experience and knowledge within our club that you can learn from.
